STREAMING MEDIA CONTENT
STREAMING is a process in which audio/video content is continuously transmitted to the client PC across Internet or Intranet and the audio/video content is played continuously and nothing is saved in the harddisk of the client. But in case of Downloading,a file is saved in the harddisk and file can be used only after it has been downloaded completely.
For streaming, special media server is used.
STREAMING MEDIA CONTENT USING IIS
1.Go to a 2003 server PC,create a folder 'media'.
2.Save some audio/video file in it.
3.Install IIS and open IIS.
4.Create a website using the audio/video file as the document of the website.
5.Go to client,type ip of server in the Internet Explorer.
STREAMING MEDIA SERVER
In windows 2003 server, Streaming Media Server can be configured which is an advanced media server technology used to stream media content from a single file,mixture of files and live audio/video session across Intranet and also on Internet.
HOW TO INSTALL MEDIA SERVER
1.Go to a 2003 server PC and open programs > administrative tools > configure your server wizard.
2.Click next > next.
3.Select 'Streaming Media server'
4.Click next > finish.
HOW TO CREATE A PUBLISHING POINT IN THE MEDIA SERVER ?
1.Create a folder 'media' and save some audio/video file having extension .wmv or .avi
2.Open programs > administrative tools > windows media services.
3.Click on the computer-name.
4.Right-click on 'Publishingpoints' > Add new publishing point.
5.Click Next and in the Name,type 'testmovie'.
6.Click next > select 'one file ' > next.
7.Select 'on-demand publishing point' > next.
8.Click next > Click on 'Browse'.
9.Go to the folder 'media' and select the file in it.
10.Click next > next > next > finish.
11.Go to the client PC and open Internet Explorer.
12.Type:
mms://name of media server/publishingpoint-name
e.g.,
mms://pc1/testmovie
